The second day of the Global NGOs Stakeholders Summit 2026 reinforced a powerful message: Africa's future depends on empowering its young people to lead today, not someday. Held under the overarching theme, "Catalyst of Change," the day's discussions focused on "The Future of Change Agencies and Emerging Leadership in Africa," bringing together voices from civil society, government, academia, and the private sector to explore how the continent can build stronger, more sustainable leadership.

At the heart of the conversation was a call to move beyond symbolic youth representation. Panelists stressed that young people should be recognized not merely as beneficiaries of development but as trusted decision-makers capable of shaping policies, institutions, and communities. The discussion challenged organizations to ensure that youth participation extends beyond fulfilling representation requirements and translates into meaningful leadership opportunities.

One of the strongest messages from the session was the importance of collaboration among emerging leaders. Speakers emphasized that Africa's progress will be accelerated when young leaders support one another through partnerships, mentorship, networking, and shared learning. They noted that institutional trust and opportunities for practical leadership are essential for unlocking the continent's enormous potential.

Innovation also featured prominently throughout the discussions. Panelists described innovation as more than technological advancement, highlighting creative thinking, community-driven solutions, and fresh approaches to long-standing challenges. They encouraged organizations to embrace innovation in ways that strengthen cooperation rather than create division.

The conversation further called for a development model driven by African leadership, local resources, and homegrown solutions. Rather than continually managing social challenges, participants advocated investing in local economies, expanding employment opportunities, and increasing youth participation in decision-making to achieve lasting progress.

Distinguished panelists

Among the distinguished panelists were Ms. Cynthia Bavo of Foundations for Civil Society Tanzania, Sandra Oswald of Vodacom Tanzania, an Advisor from the President's Office, Agatha Ugadi of Legado, David Msongori, Sophia Wabasha of Swahilipot Hub, and Prof. George K. Kosimbei.

The day's discussions left delegates with an inspiring vision for Africa's future. As participants repeatedly emphasized through their contributions, meaningful youth leadership, collaboration, innovation, and locally driven development are essential to sustaining Africa's social impact legacy.
