ABUJA, Nigeria — Women from Dape Community, Life Camp, Abuja, have taken part in a five-day mindfulness and empowerment programme focused on mental wellness, personal development, practical skills and awareness of issues affecting women.

Held from September 14 to 18, the programme was organized by Mindful Horizon Wellness Initiatives, founded by Coach Jennifer Ojeh, with sponsorship support from the Nigeria-German Centre for Migration.

The initiative provided participants with an opportunity to learn, reflect, develop practical skills and engage in meaningful conversations about their wellbeing and the challenges women face in society.

Coach Jennifer Ojeh led participants through sessions centred on mindfulness and wellness, encouraging greater self-awareness and highlighting the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing. The sessions also explored practices that can support healthier and more purposeful lives.

The programme combined wellness education with hands-on practical learning. Participants were introduced to a practical craft they could continue practising beyond the programme, linking personal development with skills acquisition.

“The programme created a supportive environment where the women could interact, learn from one another and explore different aspects of personal growth.”

An important part of the programme was a session on gender-based violence (GBV), delivered by Ambassador Faith Agada, Founder of Fadora Champion Initiative for Advocacy and Social Impact. The session addressed gender-based violence, its impact on individuals and communities, and the importance of awareness, advocacy and social support.

“The inclusion of GBV awareness alongside mental wellness and empowerment broadened the programme's focus,” reflecting the connection between women's wellbeing and the social challenges they may encounter.

The community-focused initiative gave women from Dape Community an opportunity to gain knowledge, acquire practical skills and discuss issues relevant to their everyday lives.

The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to every participant, recognizing their completion of the five-day learning experience.

The certificates offered a tangible reminder of the knowledge, experiences and skills gained during the programme.

As the initiative ended on September 18, participants were encouraged to carry the lessons beyond the programme and apply them in their personal lives and communities.

Through Mindful Horizon Wellness Initiatives, under the leadership of Coach Jennifer Ojeh, and with sponsorship from the Nigeria-German Centre for Migration, the programme demonstrated how wellness education, practical skills and social awareness can create meaningful opportunities for women to learn, connect, reflect and grow.

“Empowerment begins with awareness, grows through knowledge and becomes meaningful when people are equipped with practical skills and supportive communities.”

For the women of Dape Community, the five-day experience represents more than a completed programme. It is a step toward greater awareness, confidence, practical knowledge and the possibility of carrying positive change into their families and wider community.
