Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna has taken another major step in his rapidly developing football career after making his Premier League debut for Brighton & Hove Albion in their emphatic 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The 19-year-old winger was introduced in the 78th minute at the Amex Stadium, replacing Mats Wieffer as Brighton comfortably managed the closing stages of a dominant opening-day performance.

For Yohanna, the appearance represents the fulfilment of a remarkable journey from Nigerian academy football to one of the world's most competitive leagues. He joined Brighton from Swedish club AIK in the summer on a five-year contract, having previously developed at Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria.

Brighton's decision to retain him with the first-team squad for the 2026/27 campaign rather than immediately send him out on loan reflects the club's belief in his potential. His Premier League debut now provides another important platform for that development.

Brighton had already put the contest beyond doubt before Yohanna entered the pitch. Victor Lindelöf's own goal opened the scoring, Maxim De Cuyper doubled the advantage, and Jack Hinshelwood added two quick goals to complete a four-goal first half.

Yohanna's rise has already attracted strong praise from those who worked with him at AIK. Technical director Peter Wennberg described the winger as capable of being able to “sting like a cobra” when given the freedom to attack, while also saying that “Zadok bloomed” through the club's development system.
