Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea era has begun with an encouraging attacking display, as Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Morgan Rogers all found the scoresheet in a dramatic 3-2 Premier League victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The attacking trio arrived with immediate impact, combining creativity, movement and finishing ability to give Chelsea a dream start under their new head coach. João Pedro opened the scoring after just 31 seconds, capitalizing on a clever pass from Palmer to produce a composed finish. The goal set the tone for an energetic Chelsea performance.

Rogers then announced himself on his competitive Chelsea debut, arriving at the back post to finish a flowing team move and restore Chelsea’s lead. Palmer was again involved in the build-up, with his combination play highlighting the attacking understanding developing between the new-look forwards.

Palmer completed the trio’s contribution after the break, adding Chelsea’s third goal and giving Alonso’s side a two-goal advantage. By the end of the match, Palmer and João Pedro had each registered two goal contributions, while Rogers recorded one, underlining the attacking potential available to Alonso.

The performance also provides an early glimpse of Alonso’s tactical vision. Palmer and Rogers operated in advanced positions behind João Pedro, with their positional freedom allowing them to interchange and create problems for Fulham’s defence. Chelsea had already shown during pre-season how the three could combine effectively, with the club describing the prospect of Palmer and Rogers playing alongside João Pedro as an exciting one.

Alonso previously said he had “a plan” for Rogers and Palmer and believed they could “link really well.” The opening-day performance offered an early indication that his vision can translate into attacking productivity.

Chelsea still have defensive areas to improve after conceding twice, but the attacking signs are promising. For supporters hoping for a new beginning under Alonso, Palmer, João Pedro and Rogers have provided plenty of reason for optimism.

If their chemistry continues to grow, this front three could become one of the foundations of a Chelsea side capable of competing strongly throughout the season.
