Bayern Munich Face Blockbuster Champions League Test With Arsenal, Atlético and United

Bayern Munich have been handed a compelling set of opponents for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase, with the German giants facing a mixture of European heavyweights, ambitious challengers and emerging clubs.

The draw has placed Bayern against Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Real Betis, Manchester United, Bodø/Glimt, Lille, Slavia Praha and Viking. UEFA confirmed that Bayern will host Arsenal, Real Betis, Bodø/Glimt and Slavia Praha, while travelling to face Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, Lille and Viking.

The headline encounters are difficult to overlook. Arsenal and Bayern have regularly competed at the highest level of European football, while Atlético Madrid bring their trademark intensity and defensive organisation. The meeting with Manchester United also carries enormous historical weight, giving Bayern another marquee fixture on a league-phase schedule packed with tradition and ambition.

The league phase begins between September 8 and 10, with Bayern's complete match dates and kick-off times to be confirmed by UEFA. Each club plays eight different opponents, with four matches at home and four away. The top eight teams qualify directly for the Round of 16, while teams finishing ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs.

For Bayern, the ambition is clear: compete for a top-eight finish and avoid the additional pressure of the play-offs. Sporting director Max Eberl has identified direct qualification for the last 16 as an important objective, with the ultimate dream being the final in Madrid on June 5, 2027.
