President William Ruto has announced that Kenya will begin a national conversation on the country's long-term future beyond Vision 2030, with discussions set to commence on August 12. The initiative aims to engage citizens in shaping a new development framework that will guide Kenya after its current national blueprint reaches its target year.
The announcement follows the President's receipt of a report containing proposals for Kenya's long-term national transformation beyond Vision 2030. The report, prepared by a team of scholars and policy experts, is expected to serve as a starting point for nationwide consultations involving citizens, institutions, and stakeholders.
Vision 2030, introduced in 2008, has guided Kenya's economic, social, and political development agenda for nearly two decades. As the country approaches the end of that roadmap, the government says it is time to begin planning for the next chapter with broad public participation.
President Ruto described the report as an important contribution to the country's future, emphasizing that meaningful progress begins with open dialogue and thoughtful reflection. He noted that the upcoming conversations will give Kenyans an opportunity to help define the nation's aspirations, priorities, and development goals for generations to come.
The discussions are expected to explore key issues such as economic transformation, infrastructure, education, innovation, governance, environmental sustainability, and opportunities for young people. By inviting diverse voices into the process, the government hopes to develop a shared national vision that reflects the needs and ambitions of all Kenyans.
The initiative also builds on existing national planning efforts while recognizing that future challenges and opportunities require fresh thinking and inclusive policymaking. A collaborative approach could help strengthen public ownership of the country's long-term development agenda.
As Kenya prepares to launch the national conversation on August 12, many will be watching how citizens contribute to shaping a roadmap beyond Vision 2030. If the dialogue remains inclusive and forward-looking, it could mark an important step toward building a more resilient, innovative, and prosperous future for generations to come.
