More than 200 stakeholders, development practitioners, social innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders gathered on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, for a high-level summit celebrating Africa's growing influence in global development and innovation.

The summit brought together influential voices from across the continent and beyond to explore how Africans are driving meaningful change as innovators, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and development practitioners. Through engaging panel discussions and interactive sessions, participants examined opportunities for collaboration, social entrepreneurship, sustainable development, and locally driven solutions to pressing challenges.

Among the keynote speakers was Mahmoud Noor, Founder and Executive Director of Swahilipot Hub, who highlighted the importance of empowering young people through innovation, technology, and leadership. He emphasized creating opportunities that enable youth to become active contributors to society and catalysts for lasting change.

The Regional Director of Ashoka East Africa also addressed participants, stressing the value of social innovation and collective action in tackling complex regional challenges. Attendees were encouraged to see themselves not merely as beneficiaries of development but as leaders capable of creating sustainable impact within their own communities.

Gabriel Bundala, Founder and Director of the Foundation for Civil Society Tanzania, reinforced the importance of strengthening civil society organizations and equipping local communities to lead development initiatives. His presentation underscored the role of grassroots leadership, partnerships, and community ownership in achieving long-term progress.

A major highlight of the summit was the exchange of practical strategies to help nonprofit organizations become more sustainable, innovative, and impactful. Discussions focused on partnership building, resource mobilization, organizational growth, and effective approaches to addressing challenges facing NGOs across Africa.

Throughout the day, one message remained clear: Africans are not merely participants in global development, they are contributors, innovators, and architects of solutions transforming communities across the world.

Beyond the presentations, the summit created valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among leaders from diverse sectors. Participants departed inspired by stories of resilience, innovation, and purpose, leaving with renewed determination to strengthen partnerships and accelerate sustainable development across Africa. The gathering closed on a hopeful note, reaffirming that the continent's greatest strength lies in the people committed to building a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous future.
