For many leaders, influence is measured by position or status. But for MCA Mathew Alany Lonyait, leadership is rooted in service, compassion, and the determination to improve the lives of ordinary people. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a respected community leader continues to inspire many across his ward and beyond.

Raised in a modest background, Hon. Mathew Alany Lonyait experienced the realities of hardship from an early age. Rather than allowing those struggles to define his future, he used them as motivation to fight for change within his community. His passion for leadership grew from a deep desire to support vulnerable families and create opportunities for those in need.

Speaking during an interview with WBN News correspondent Roda Alamin from Kakuma, Hon. Mathew Alany Lonyait explained what first inspired him to pursue leadership.

“The urge to serve my people,” he said.

Before entering public office, Hon. Mathew actively participated in community initiatives focused on poverty reduction and social welfare. Through those efforts, he witnessed the daily struggles faced by women, children, and the elderly.

Determined to make a lasting impact, he established a Community-Based Organization dedicated to community development and support for vulnerable groups. Through the organization, he invested his time and energy into programmes aimed at empowering both young people and older members of society.

Among his major priorities has been improving access to clean water, a challenge affecting many underserved communities.

Education has also remained central to his mission. Hon. Mathew Alany Lonyait sponsored children from disadvantaged families who could not afford school, giving many young people a chance at a better future.

He also organized harambees and fundraising initiatives to support women in starting small businesses and achieving financial independence.

“I involve my community in decision-making and make sure every community member is involved,”

he said, reflecting his inclusive leadership style.

Hon. Mathew says he hopes to become

“a good role model to everyone by doing good to all people,”

while striving for

“a ward and county that will be economically liberated and a very free society.”

As his leadership journey continues, many in the community see Hon. Mathew Alany Lonyait as a symbol of hope, resilience, and servant leadership. His story stands as a reminder that true leadership is not about personal gain, but about creating lasting change that uplifts generations to come.
